About this resource

Stop The Spread

Stop the Spread is our brand new STEM challenge for 7-16 years. Highlighting the global issue of infectious disease pupils design, build and test a model of a hand washing device and produce educational materials for children in Kenya to encourage hand washing. Free materials to support the delivery of the challenge include teacher guidelines, a student pack, PowerPoint, certificates and a rather fabulous poster. It is accredited for the British Science Association CREST Discovery Award and can used to enter the Youth Grand Challenges competitions. It has strong links to the Global Goals for sustainable development. Elaine Manton, STEM co-ordinator from Loreto Grammar School trialled the materials for us "We have just incorporated Stop the Spread into our KS3 curriculum and are not only using it for our Year 8 assessment but also for our Student Leaders Awards"

"Use a picture. It's worth a thousand words." appeared in a 1911 newspaper article. In education, our expectation of all children is high. Every written and spoken word will count as they grow and experience life. The hook to draw children and young people into learning is key. TeachingHooks.com has been created to provide teachers and other staff in education with engaging visual hooks. TeachingHooks.com provides six week's worth of content for six terms throughout the academic year. The content has been randomly selected to ensure that children (and teachers) are kept on their toes. The images can be used on screen or as printed material to inspire and engage children with their world. The images are available for free, and sized at 1600 x 900px or 4:3 ratio. Just click on an image for it to appear in a lightbox!
